How Beginner Writers with No Time Can Post Every Day

My three-month-old baby boy is lying next to me as I quickly write this and it’s 8:26 pm. I still have to jump onto Canva and create new designs for my tiny digital fashion line, read about SEO, and how to blog eloquently. Let’s not even mention the chores and daycare prep I have awaiting me. I try to remind myself that I don’t have time to do anything right now because I have dependent children under 2 years old, but when they’re older, I can accomplish more during the day.

How are we supposed to accomplish anything while our children are helpless? I just read an article about how keeping a two-hour morning and evening routine for writing is key for consistent posts when you work a 9–5 job. Am I the only parent who mentally scoffs at this? I wake up at 5 am to get the family ready for work/school and I still don’t have that kind of time, but so far, I’ve managed to write every day and lay my head down on my favorite silk pillow by 11 pm. When you’re a beginner writer with no time, how do you write? This is what I do:

When you don’t have time to write, don’t write, SPEAK.

I found that opening a Word document and pressing the Dictate option will work wonders for me. The Dictate option transcribes everything you say onto Word. If you can type 100 wpm then you are very fast unlike most people, but if you’re not an alien like me and type average, then the Dictate option can work. Humans speak quickly and average 100–150 wpm. Use Dictate to forge your rough drafts and the bones of its body.

When you don’t have time, copy and paste your dictated prose into Grammarly or another editor you may use.

Quickly review its suggestions and correct those. As time passes and our writing develops, I know we’ll be great at grammar and sentence structure. For beginner writers who don’t have time, this will have to work. When time is granted by the gods, don’t forget to sit still and manually write or type your essay. There is a therapy to it.

These are suggestions for anyone who is a beginner with no time to sit down and write for four hours altogether or even spread out.

This is for the beginner writer who quickly needs to get an article published on Medium. It is not a long-term solution as quality is very important and the quickest-written articles have the greatest chance for errors. I hope that when we have time, we can rest and write a high-quality article, but for now, we just want articles published. In time our skills will develop, so go on, speak.
