Do You Live in a Dream Home or a Dream House?

Living in a homeless shelter at 16 years old is not what I call “living the life”. I wished my family owned a red brick house with blue trimming and lush St. Augustine grass. In six months, I learned that my dream residence was not a physical house, but an intangible dream home called a family. Here are two things I consider a dream home.

I Wake Up with my Family

Although I did not have a house, at the homeless shelter, I woke up next to my family not wondering where they were. This gave me a sense of comfort and safety. Feeling safe with your family is a dream.

I Eat with my Family

Now that I’m an adult and have my own family, I get to enjoy two to three meals with them every day. Listening to my sons yell, “I love your pancakes, Mama!” brings joy and fulfillment. At the homeless shelter, I ate with my family too, and I realized that I wasn’t alone. Spending time with your loved ones is a dream home.

Conclusion

The dream house often has enough rooms to fit a family with a large kitchen, living room, and dining area, but it’s important to remember that if you’re with family in a safe environment and enjoy your time, you already have the perfect dream home.
